Yesterday we released a neat microsite for the German national football players on Facebook. In this overview you can check the Facebook engagement of all players and indeed in real time!

This year’s European Championship is in full swing and now the fight for the semi finals started. Yesterday, Portugal has shown us how to do this in the first quarterfinal game. Today, the German team wants to follow Portugal in the match against Greece.

Since the beginning of the European Championship we were able to notice several  interesting changes in the performance of the German national football players on Facebook. Let’s look at who of the German players made the biggest gains in the areas of fan growth, interactions and People Talking About This since the start of the Euro on the 8th of June.

Top Gaining Player In Collecting Facebook Fans

In the KPI table of the German national football players on Facebook, with a data period from the start of Euro 2012 to the present, you can see that Mario Gomez could add more than 190k fans. His Facebook page has over 545k fans now. In growth Gomez is slightly ahead of Mesut Özil, but Özil has more than 5.46 million fans overall. This Facebook success of Mario Gomez is mainly due to his 3 goals at the European Championships so far. It seems that scoring the important goals also pays off on Facebook. ;)

German National Football Players On Facebook – Top Gainers For The Fan Growth Rate

The fan growth rate makes it possible to compare the relative fan changes of the Facebook pages for all German players on Facebook. This is an important KPI to compare pages of different sizes.

In this chart we can see a huge peak for André Schürrle. On June 13th he generated a fan growth rate of 14.4760%. For readers who are not familar with that player name, Schürrle plays at Bayer 04 Leverkusen and made one Euro match so far. The next peak in the fan growth rate chart comes from Mario Gomez and is of course related to the above mentioned goals.

Top Gaining Player For Absolute People Talking About This Numbers

People Talking About This (PTAT) has become an important KPI to measure the success of any Facebook page.

Obviously, Mesut Özil is leading in the area of the total PTAT. Hardly surprising since the Real Madrid player has by far the most fans and is known worldwide.

Top Gaining Player For People Talking About This Rate

The People Talking About This Rate compares the people talking about value of a facebook page normalized by the number of fans. The rate of People Talking About This is naturally more meaningful as the absolute numbers.

In this chart you can see a very different picture compared to the chart above. In relative terms, Ilkay Gündogan and André Schürrle are the players with the highest relative user engagement and not Mesut Özil.

Top Gaining Player In Interactions

Facebook interactions are likes, shares and comments generated through wall postings. In the interaction grid of all German football players on Facebook two things are striking. On the one hand Mesut Özil leads once again well ahead of all the other players, on the other hand the players aren’t posting much news and status updates on Facebook. Of course, there isn’t much time during the Euro matches. In the case of the interaction rate, which presents the average number of interactions (likes + comments + shares) per own post normalized per fan of a Facebook page, the results are totally different.

You can see many peaks by a lot of different players since the Euro 2012 started. The highest Facebook interaction rate was created by Ron-Robert Ziegler directly at the beginning of this years Euro. This means that Ziegler has the most active fans in relative terms. Certainly a nice message for the German substitute keeper.

There are a lot of things happening on the Facebook pages of the German players during the European Championship. Keep it rolling and check the real time overview of all German national football players on Facebook regularly.
