Facebook is currently removing fake accounts and likes from their platform and as a result most of the Facebook pages lost some of their fans. This removal operation was annouced by Facebook under the title Improvements To Our Site Integrity Systems on the 31 August. In the related blog post by Facebook they already pointed out that “On average, less than 1% of Likes on any given Page will be removed, providing they and their affiliates have been abiding by our terms.”
Due to the incredible growth of Facebook and the resulting pressure for some companies to build a big fan base as quickly as possible, a lot of services popped up which created fake accounts en masse to then sell them as page likes. It is obvious that the one or the other company has used such services. Of course, there are also a lot of Facebook fake accounts for many other reasons.
Therefore we have checked our databases to find out which pages lost the most fans. First of all, we generated a small overview for every page owner to check the fan changes segmented by the size of the pages:
