Monster" width="198" height="198" />When it comes to energy drinks everybody thinks about two major brands: Red Bull and Monster Energy. In addition, there were various duels between Red Bull and Monster Energy, but yet there was no duel with a focus on their social media performance. That was reason enough for us to devote both companies a special infographic and therefore we put them into our social media duel.

A few words on the infographic itself. The first view makes clear that Red Bull dominates when it comes to fans and followers. But that does not automatically mean that they surpass Monster Energy in case of interaction. Since a high interaction index indicates a relative high amount of active fans and vice versa. That’s exactly the case for Monster Energy but we don’t know the secret recipe of them, maybe the customer loyalty is a lot stronger.

We hope you enjoy our newest infographic and we would like to hear your suggestions for future social media duels. Of course you can also browse through all other social media duels we already published.

The internet and, of course, the rise and worldwide adoption of social media and mobile surfing revolutionized a lot of industries. Also the fashion world got strongly disrupted. Through social networks and the exploding number of fashion blogs the world of clothing got into hot discussions and feedback by millions of customers and fans. Since fashion is a really image-driven topic there are uncountable photos and videos, which are getting shared, liked, commented, pinned, reblogged and so much more.

There is hardly another topic, which is on the one hand so emotionally charged and on the other hand totally individual. Sure, there a people who are really not interested in fashion in any way. But nowadays you can find clothing that matches also your very special personal style within seconds. Never before it has been so easy to set up even your own fashion label in minutes and distribute your self-created clothes worldwide with virtually little expenses. In addition to this very large number of small and micro labels, the worldwide biggest and established fashion brands are now facing the mammoth task to keep existing customers at the bar and also finding new fans with appropriate marketing strategies.

But how do they do this? Currently, there isn’t any better way to check the social media marketing strategies of fashion brands than on Facebook. Therefore we created this industry analysis of fashion on Facebook.

Fashion On Facebook – The 10 Biggest Fashion Brands

In this illustrious fashion circle adidas is even represented twice, with Nike Football and Converse there are also two more sports brand, luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Burberry, the iconic Jeans brand Levi’s and Victoria’s Secret – probably the best-known underwear brand. Furthermore listed are the clothing brand chains H&M and Zara.

Fashion Content On Facebook – Truly Image-driven

It is in the nature of things that static or moving images are working best for fashion on Facebook. This gets proved by our post type distribution chart. Analyzing the data of the last two years photos are the most shared content types of the fashion brands. H&M ranks first with 1371 photo posts and is followed by Levi’s with 1185 updates of one or more photos. With 262 videos Victoria’s Secret had posted the most fashion films. When it comes to links, Victoria’s Secret leads again with a number of 262 link posts, but followed closely by H&M with 249 links. For the content type miscellaneous, which includes questions for example, Nike Football leads the top ten with 46 updates. Music and Flash seems not relevant, in fact there are zero updates for these types by all brands.

The Interaction Rate – How Active Are The Fashion Fans?

Since only a large number of Facebook fans only shows how well-known a brand is, it is the activity of these fans that really counts. As it is commonly known, that it isn’t easy for really big Facebook pages to keep the fan activation on a high level, we take a deep dive into fashion on Facebook. The interaction rate gets calculated by adding the number of comments, likes and shares divided by the number of postings multiplied with 100 divided by the number of fans.

The interaction rate is a great indicator because it gets measured irrespective of the amount of fans. Therefore a high interaction index indicates a relative high amount of active fans and vice versa.

The chart shows an analysis of the last 2 years with a monthly interval. Obviously Burberry has the most active fans and thus probably also a very good community management. Checking the key metrics table for fashion on Facebook for the last 2 years the more than 100 years old British fashion brand reaches an interaction rate of 0.183%, followed by the French luxury goods manufacturer Louis Vuitton with a rate of 0.168%. Bottom of this group is Levi’s with a rate of only 0.010%.

Social Support – The New Core Of Social Media?

Next to plain marketing social media rises to become a preferred support channel for customers. At a first sight, this trend wasn’t really planed by the most brands. But as social networks are enabling customers to interact a lot faster and also more powerful, since all other fans, followers, subscribers and so on are able to see the support request, it’s quite a big task for the most brands to respond quickly to avert any possible brand damage.

Hence we analyzed the response times for fashion on Facebook. The reponse time is the time difference between the creation of the user post and the answer of the page owner to this post. Of course, not every user post is a question. quintly is using an intelligent algorithm to identify real questions using a variety of indicators.

It should also be noted that two years ago only Luis Vuitton blocked user posts. All other brands allowed their fans to publish something. This has changed somewhat today. Meanwhile also Nike Football and adidas are blocking user postings. But since they had allowed user posts earlier, there is still data for response time measurement.

Although H&M and Victoria’s Secret are the most active brands in responding public user questions, they have also the highest amount of not responded user questions. In summary it looks like that only the mentioned brand chains are interested in giving support via Facebook. The figures confirm this assumption. Within the last 2 years H&M had a Response Rate of 57.53%, followed by Victoria’s Secret with 32.96% and Levi’s with a rate of 22.81%. Louis Vuitton, adidas and Nike Football never responded to any user post.

What do you think about fashion on Facebook? Are the biggest fashion brands following the right strategy?

The week is as good as done and even if I am repeating myself this means that it is time again to take a look at the most talked about pages of the week. Over the last weeks, the page OIESAMAMADA clearly dominated our ranking, but this week Pepsi has taken the leadership. When we look at the people talking about this value one might even say that Pepsi outclassed OIESAMAMADA. Remains only one open question: Can Pepsi hold this performance or will everything be back to normal next week?

Although Pepsi is the most impressive newcomer, it’s not the only one this week. Next to the new top dog, we welcome Dunkin’ Donuts, Budweiser and Manchester United. Another highlight of the last week is that the page of George Takei has not made it into the ranking for the first time, but of course there are a few of the usual suspects in the most talked about pages of the week.

Of course we are also interested in your opinion this week. What do you think about this most talked about pages of the week? Finally, it only remains to say nice weekend and have fun while analyzing your data

But are you stressed up because everything on these platforms feels so slow and you want to speed up your browsing?

As many people don’t know, these four social media platforms are all having some nice keyboard shortcuts. With these shortcuts you can move faster, more comfortable and just pick up the pace. We show you how they work. Navigate through Facebook & co. like a real pro!

For all those who don’t know what a shortcut is: A shortcut is a specific key combination for a command that would otherwise be available only through a menu or an interface. This means a lot of mouse-clicking and it needs some time. Time, that can easily be saved by learning and using shortcuts, especially on social media platforms. Social media shortcuts allow you to get directly to a specific section on those social media platforms, for example your messages, photos, friend requests, account settings, or to perform a specific command by just one shortcut, without much mouse-clicking.

To give you an example: You are on Facebook and you want to read a new message, like a photo and check your timeline at last. This can be done by three easy social media shortcuts. Or imagine you want to watch a YouTube video in full screen. You don’t have to search for the small icon below the video anymore, just press “F” to get it in full screen instantly. Sounds handy, doesn’t it?

Become A Pro – Use Social Media Shortcuts

Maybe you will need some time to get used to all the social media shortcuts – but it is surely worth the effort. You can find all shortcuts in our infographic below. What are you waiting for? Speed up your daily social media usage and impress your friends with your awesome new shortcut skills.

Exactly as in the last months we analyzed the most important Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) (number of fans, interaction rate, total number of interactions, People Are Talking About, PTAT rate, own posts, user posts and the number of likes, comments and shares) for six different segments depending on the page sizes (1-1,000 fans, 1,001 – 10,000 fans, …) on Facebook.

So if you need to know whether your Facebook page performs well on average, this graphic is a good tool to get the answer. If you are missing something, just leave us a comment.

This week the ranking is led by the page OIESAMAMADA and as in the weeks before with an incredible PTAT-value (10m). Since the page is started appearing in our ranking it is on the first place. But the important thing is not the fact that the page leads our ranking since a “decade”, more impressive is the PTAT-value the page gets week after week. But let us now get on with the rest of the most talked about pages of the week.

Altogether the ranking has not really changed compared to last week. Once again pages around religious topics are pretty strong, especially the two pages Jesus Daily and God. But religion is also important on pages like Dios Es Bueno! and Dios es Amor. Besides religion fun also plays an important role in the Facebook universe as can be seen on pages like 1,000,000 Pictures, George Takei or I fucking love science for example.

In addition it should be mentioned that the Fast & Furious page is still a part of the top ten most talked about pages of the week.

On the one hand we have the all-time record team of FC Bayern München, with a total of 23 first places in the Deutsche Bundesliga. On the other hand we have the team of Borussia Dortmund, winning the last two seasons of the Bundesliga and giving Bayern the creeps, as they beat them with 5:2 in the DFB Pokal final last year.

Bayern was not only beaten by Dortmund, but also by Chelsea in the last Champions League final. Encouraged by this downfall, they started to come back as a nightmare to all the teams they were playing against. Bayern didn’t only break many all-time records in the Bundesliga, i.e. being earliest champion after 28 match days, they also forced down Barcelona with altogether 7:0 in 4 halftimes in the semifinals of this Champions League season.

Just like all other Social Media Duels we always compare two companies, brands, products and in this particular case also football teams against each other. Coincidentally, the two teams are also the two most successful teams in Germany at the moment and therefore this two teams fit perfect into our Social Media Duel.

Team quintly wishes good luck to both teams and we are looking forward to an exciting final.

They headlined that “Facebook loses millions of users as biggest markets peak.” As reasons for this user loss especially in developed countries, they identified new social networks like Path and Instagram and, of course, a Facebook fatigue. Then there were some contradictions that this story can’t be true because of the fact that Facebook country statistics are not actually equal to the real number of Facebook users.

Virtually at the right time Facebook released its quarterly earnings for the first quarter of this year. In this report you can read something completely different from all the sources that stated Facebook is losing a lot of users, particularly in the US and the U.K. In this context, TechCrunch was not too bad for a derisive comment to this regard: “Another important stat is that Facebook’s monthly active and daily active users in the US and Canada increased, despite erroneous recent claims from third-party data providers and critics that Facebook had lost users in US.”

The Difference Between Facebook Advertising Data And Official Facebook Quarterly Earnings

This stacked bar chart shows the development of monthly active Facebook user from the first quarter of 2011 to the first quarter of the current year. According to this slide Facebook has more than 1,11 billion monthly active users. Furthermore you can easily see that the numbers for US & Canada, Europe, Asia and the rest of the world are constantly growing. Of course, the user growth of the US & Canada has clearly slowed down. But there is no user loss in sight.

Comparing the official figures of Facebook from the first quarter with the appropriate numbers of the Facebook country statistics with the Facebook advertising data as source, the difference between those numbers is finally obvious. Facebook reports 1,11 billion users at the end of the first quarter, the advertising data reports a user count of 965 million users. So there is a rough difference of nearly 150 million users.

For comparison: The well-known local review app Yelp recently breaks the number of 100 million unique visitors, social dating app Badoo has more than 172 million members and messaging app Nimbuzz currently hits the 150 million user mark.

In terms of Facebook figures the difference between official user numbers and Facebook ads data isn’t that big, but it looks quite extreme in relation to other well-known social networks and services.

Conclusion – there is indeed a big difference between data from Facebook ads and the Facebook earning graph data. Nothing new for the most marketing and media people in the world, since it’s a matter of common knowledge that all the Facebook country statistics data from external tool and data providers is based on Facebook ads data. And this advertising data can be seen as rough estimates for the Facebook country statistics. No more, no less. Only if you check the official earning call numbers of Facebook you are able to get the exact statistics for monthly and daily active Facebook users.

Facebook Country Statistics May 2013 – Still Worth A Look

For May 2013 the tide has turned a bit. Except for the U.K. and Germany all other countries experienced a user growth again. But Germany only lost 0.12% of its users while the United Kingdom lost 264k users in total. Therefore nothing special. Furthermore Brazil stays to be the biggest winner in case of adding new users constantly. As already written the growth potential of Brazil seems to be unbroken.

But one more thing:

Whoops – If you check the global figures, it currently doesn’t look like that the youth leaves Facebook in droves. Young males between 18-24 years are still the strongest user group on Facebook. Followed by men between 25-34 years and females between 18-24 years.

Another week almost passed and this means for us that it’s once again time for our most talked about pages of the week. Exactly as in the last weeks the first place does not change, but the rest of the ranking is different. Need for Speed could not keep its position in our ranking but I would argue that the page is worthily represented by the Fast & Furious page, which has made it for the first time into our weekly ranking. I personally suspect the success of the Fast & Furious page is related to the theatrical release of the new movie.

What else can I say about the most talked about pages of the week. The remaining representatives in our ranking are not unknown for us because we have already met them in recent weeks. Especially pages as God, Jesus Daily, George Takei, Facebook for every phone, I fucking love science and 1,000,000 Pictures accompany us since the beginning of this blog series. What is definitely noticeable is the fact that Spanish pages are appearing more often in our ranking. Meanwhile, four of the ten most talked about pages of the week are Spanish respectively pages on which the content is Spanish.

Of course we are also interested in your opinion this week. What do you think about this most talked about pages of the week?

On the one hand there was already the third version of our Average Facebook Performance infographic and on the other hand we posted a neat social media infographic on how to optimize Facebook posts. Both graphics were received very well, mainly because they contained relevant information for the optimization of Facebook marketing campaigns.

Another well noticed article was our post about Facebook Local, in which we described the latest developments of Facebook regarding the new Graph Search and the mobile only function called Nearby respectively Local Search. As a result Facebook is getting an important linchpin for local marketing approaches, of course, especially for bricks-and-mortar businesses.

Since sports is always a nice social media topic, we also published an article about the past Golf Masters in which we analyzed the Facebook performance of the worldwide top 10 golf players. If you ever asked yourself which cartoon sitcom is the most liked on Facebook, our Cartoons article is worth to look at. Last but not least, there was again a social media duel. This time we compared the Twitter and Facebook performance of McDonalds and Burger King all beautifully packaged in a further Infographic.
