quintly Facebook Country Stats January 2013The year 2013 has begun, and for us it’s time to look accurately at the changes of our Facebook country stats. The expectations of Facebook for this year are of course very high due to the many extraordinary events in 2012. Next to the most talked about IPO since years, we experienced the social gifting expansion, a massive number of new ad formats both on the web and on mobile and the biggest social network on the planet optimized its platform almost everywhere. Recently, our CEO Alex posted his Facebook predictions for 2013. In his predictions he wrote that Facebook will continue to grow. Now we have the fresh numbers and are able to make a first check.

While we coudn’t detect the much-touted Facebook fatigue in the demographics of December 2012, currently we can determine stagnating user numbers in the U.S.. Certainly a loss of 120k users or 0.07% isn’t that much. The U.S. is still on the first place of our country list with more than 168.8 million Facebook users. Followed by Brazil, which added more than 2.4 million new users within the last month and finally India with a user growth of 2.93% or 1.78 million new users. In summary, the total user base of Facebook grew by 0.39%.

The 10 Fastest Growing Countries

As already mentioned Brazil, India and also Indonesia added together more than 5 million new Facebook users. Next to them are other asian countries like Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and South Korea, which grew by around a half million users each. Except for China, Facebook is now the biggest Social Network in Asia. Also Russia added nearly 500k new users within the last month, although vkontakte is still the leading social network. So this will be an interesting battle to see if Facebook can also overpower one of its last competitor in the world in 2013.
